Medela Supplemental Nursing System (SNS)
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
I recently posted a breastfeeding story by my friend Dana. She describes her experience using a Supplemental Nursing System (SNS). As a followup, I thought it would be helpful to recommend a specific SNS, one that may be safer to use than other system. Medela happens to be my favorite brand, which is why I own a Medela breastpump. They feature BPA-free products, including this supplemental nursing system.
I don’t own this SNS because I have not had supply issues in the past, but if that ever changes, I will be getting this one rather than going for a bottle. Why? Because bottles can weaken the baby’s suck reflex and even lead to early weaning, which would just break my heart! Breastfeeding has always been an important avenue of bonding and communication between me and my little babies. I’m glad the SNS is out there to help mothers maintain their milk supply and their nursing relationship.

Supplemental Nursing System aka SNS
By Dana
I’ve been using this handy dandy apparatus for around 2 months now. I’ve been wanting to write a blog on the SNS and breastfeeding incase there are other moms who have nursing problems like I do. The SNS saved my nursing relationship with Silas. More on Supplemental Nursing System aka SNS

Breastfeeding Using EFT
Breastfeeding can be a wonderful, easy time for some mothers, with Baby latching on right away and nursing like a champ, with no problems from the start. But more often, learning to breastfeed can be full of emotional frustrations, challenges and stress. So how can you overcome the emotional obstacles, the challenges, and beat the stress? Your baby is counting on you to succeed at breastfeeding. That’s where Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) comes in.

Using a Nipple Shield
Nipple shields are usually clear, flexible, nipple shaped pieces of silicone with holes in the tip that can be held over the breast while a baby nurses. They can be a wonderful option to mothers who are having certain breastfeeding difficulties, as long as important concerns about using them are addressed. More on Using a Nipple Shield

Fitting Your Breastpump
Sometimes using a breast pump is painful and your breasts don’t seem to be emptying properly. What then? Well, then it’s time to check and see if your breast pump parts actually fit your breast. You can’t make an ill-fitting breast pump work correctly no matter how hard you try. More on Fitting Your Breastpump

Choosing The Best Breast Pump
I didn’t get a breastpump when my first was born. I actually only got one after my fifth. In hindsight, I should have had one from the start. For one thing, engorgement can be painful for new moms and frustrating for the new baby. Engorged nipples are hard to latch onto and if the engorgement cannot be properly relieved, mastitis can even set in. More on Choosing The Best Breast Pump
