Is Breastfeeding A Toddler Creepy?
Question; My brother thinks breastfeeding my two-and-a-half year old is creepy. Is it really? What about breastfeeding her when she is three?
Why is it creepy to him? Is it because he doesn’t think anybody but newborns/very small babies should be at the breast, or is it because he thinks breasts are sex toys?
This society has the biggest breast fetish these days. Long, long ago, it was the ankles that drove men crazy. They’d stand around on the corner, just waiting for women with their long, full dresses to step into their coach so they could see an ankle in a leather boot. Breasts were no big deal. Women breastfed anywhere, anytime.
Now it’s just the opposite. You wear nearly nothing and you hardly get a passing glance, but if your boob is slightly exposed to feed a baby it’s such a shocker! I can’t help laughing!
As for babyhood – back in the 1800’s, people used to call children younger than 6 and 7 years old infants. Now, only a child who is unable to walk is considered an infant. This has nothing to do with changing children and everything to do with a changing society – one that has lost touch with reality – if you ask me!
As for three year olds who are still nursing, the global average age for weaning is about four and a half years. I’ve breast fed one of my children as long as 4 years. That particular child was very small at birth and seemed to grow up slower than the older children, so I think she needed the extra time.
You know what is right for your baby, so don’t let other people pressure you into depriving yourself and your baby of a special, fleeting relationship. They will be grown up and weaned before you know it!

My son is 3 and still breastfeeding. I think breastfeeding a toddler is wonderful! There is no better way to calm a toddler tantrum than with breastfeeding! It is also a great way to give your little one self-confidence and help them to exert their independence. I am happy to be nursing my little guy!

When I was younger, and not a mother, I saw a mother breastfeeding her 3 year old son in an airport. I have to admit, I judged her and thought it was creepy. Now I wish I could go back in time and applaud her for her courage! I think it is completely the choice of the mother and her child. If anyone else has an opinion then they can exercise that opinion while they are breastfeeding their own child. In the case that it’s a man, well, that’s just too bad!
