Medela Supplemental Nursing System (SNS)
I recently posted a breastfeeding story by my friend Dana. She describes her experience using a Supplemental Nursing System (SNS). As a followup, I thought it would be helpful to recommend a specific SNS, one that may be safer to use than other system. Medela happens to be my favorite brand, which is why I own a Medela breastpump. They feature BPA-free products, including this supplemental nursing system.
I don’t own this SNS because I have not had supply issues in the past, but if that ever changes, I will be getting this one rather than going for a bottle. Why? Because bottles can weaken the baby’s suck reflex and even lead to early weaning, which would just break my heart! Breastfeeding has always been an important avenue of bonding and communication between me and my little babies. I’m glad the SNS is out there to help mothers maintain their milk supply and their nursing relationship.

[...] is to express of some milk and use that as a top up either during feeding (through a sns feeder: Medela Supplemental Nursing System (SNS) | Breastfeeding Mother-to-Mother), do talk to a breast feeding counsellor though before trying this. Or you can give expressed [...]
much less expensive and just as effective is using a
5fr.feeding tube and a bottle. See the Dr. Newman video on his website for the how to. $15. is a lot of money and might not work for everyone.
I truly believe that the concept of a tool that allows you to supplement at the breast is amazing, and had it not been so trying and tiring to use, it may very well have saved my breastfeeding relationship.
