Mother Food: A Breastfeeding Diet Guide with Lactogenic Foods and Herbs – Build Milk Supply, Boost Immunity, Lift Depression, Detox, Lose Weight, Optimize a Baby’s IQ, and Reduce Colic and Allergies (Paperback)

This book by Hillary Jacobson is a 344 page paperback that focuses on the role of diet in a breastfeeding mother’s lifestyle. I wish there was a preview window, but there are a lot of helpful reviews for it, including one negative one, in which the commenter basically points out that she felt the book could have been better organized and have more references.

I like to see books have good references, and organization is important. I’m still interested in it however, because it covers some important topics like what cycles can do to milk supply and how to compensate with food and herbal supplements.

Some common spices, like sage, for example, can actually reduce milk supply, so knowing about things like that can help mothers use or steer away from certain foods as they need to.

A book like this could be a valuable resource for mothers who are not just interested in breastfeeding success but overall healthy eating to optimize the breastfeeding season of life for both mother and baby.

This is a truly brilliant book. It’s true that it needs a bit more organisation and some editing to make it ‘look’ more professional but content-wise, it’s just perfect. The information in this book is useful beyond breastfeeding. It’s also a surprisingly interesting read and quite hard to put down. You can clearly tell from reading just a few pages of the book that the author really knows what she’s talking about. A must read.

agree! an indispensable book. but will be overwhelming for anyone who lacks a basic grounding in healing/nutrition. it is always by my side and just made a chickpea/marjoran/basil/barley salad, which i never would have done otherwise. powerful knowledge, all this lacto-genic food business. no wonder i was cravng sesame snaps in the variety store, something i’d never look at normally. a must read indeed,
